Give a little encouragement: Marcus Rowe

November 22, 2016

GT Marcus

Growing up, Marcus’s mother taught him to lead with action, and to notice the details that create a positive impact. He has taken her lessons to heart, stepping up to better the lives of young people through volunteering with United Way.

An employee for Merrill Lynch, his involvement with United Way first came through the Achievers For Life and Stein Fellowship initiatives. Northeast Florida has truly become Marcus and his family’s home, and he views his service to others as part of taking care of that home.

Achievers For Life identifies at-risk students as early as sixth grade and provides family support, mentors, and help for students at school, as well as enhance parent engagement in their student’s education. With the help of adult mentors like Marcus, students are motivated to pursue their dreams and are shown the academic pathways to success.

“Action speaks. Once [individuals] experience the impact of that action, there’s no way they won’t move forward. That’s when lives change, that’s when hearts change,” said Rowe.

Undesignated contributions to United Way are the most effective way to support United Way and our impact partners in improving lives and strengthening our communities. So, join Marcus and hundreds of other United Way supporters in participating in a national day of giving, #GivingTuesday, Nov. 29.
